We also offer a half-year course in Art Photography:
Immerse yourself in photography as an art form! We seek to educate fearless photographers technically, content-wise and aesthetically. Spend a year learning about and understanding fine art photography via a practical school year. You'll learn basic and advanced photography techniques, studio work and genre understanding.
We take a closer look at how photography can be used to say something, show something and mean something. Content and aesthetics in perfect harmony. We have digital teaching, but also darkroom and analog photography electives, so you can explore that too. The year is characterized by great freedom. Here you can develop as a photographer and create a portfolio that you can use, for example, for applications to higher photography and art programs. You can come with no prior knowledge or as an experienced photographer.
Who is suitable? the course before?

More about the course
We will work on this:
The year starts with lessons in camera technique, composition, image editing, understanding light and everything you need to be able to use a camera to express yourself. We then go on to explore the genre of fine art photography and look at the different approaches we can take to the subject.
The days are characterized by great freedom and we encourage you to work interdisciplinary. So if you want to look more closely at collage, drawing and video, you are free to do so. We take trips to “locations”, visit galleries and institutions and showcase our work by exhibiting. We use class conversation as a method to develop you as a photographer in a supportive class environment.
Through introductions to photographers and ways to approach the subject, you will develop a photographic language and practice recognizing and reproducing artistic expressions. We have a beautiful view from the classroom, darkroom and well-equipped studio that facilitates professional immersion.
Here, arrangements are made for you to be in practice during the school year so that you can try your hand at the subject also outside of school. Sund You have a great influence on the schedule and help create your own school year.
On Sund you get to meet fellow students with different interests. We have many very different courses which we believe is a strength for the photography department ! This provides an everyday life that provides the opportunity to learn about more than photography, here are teachers and students with broad knowledge that is used in common subjects and electives. The community is nurtured and we work for a school life that challenges and engages.
Life-style learning
Art and culture give us tools such as practical skills, empathy, collaboration, and experience with improvisation, tools you will use later in life, as a photographer and a human being.
We are a traditional folk high school who values the school community's values, conversations at eye level, and participation highly
Study trip to Japan
We travel to Japan as a study trip destination for about 3 weeks. Here you will get to know a strong visual culture and have the opportunity to create a photographic project in a culture that is experienced as different and inspiring. We create the trip together. We live centrally in the big city of Tokyo, where we visit busy streets, parks, galleries and temples, but also move outside the big city on day trips.
On the trip you work on your own project, which you receive guidance on along the way and which you exhibit when you return home. We spend most of the day out with a camera around our necks, exploring what Tokyo has to offer and taking day trips to, for example, the coastal city of Kamakura. There are also days when you create your own schedule.
Traveling gives you experiences that allow you to see yourself in context with the world. Ethics and morality as a photographer and fellow human being are part of the preparation.
Japan offers wild food, karaoke and tired legs .
We spend the year creating a portfolio that you can use to apply for further work. We use some of the work you create to create exhibitions of various types and fanzines.
We work on varied tasks and collaborate with others courses on Sund The goal is that you are left with a portfolio with a signature, an increased understanding of the world and yourself.
The magazines show a lot of what we work with and what you can learn during a year at the photo school at Sund.
Here you can see the photo magazine the students made in the school year 2022-23:

Our teacher has 6 years of education in the subject from England and Norway and has run her own photography business for years. Janne works with her own work (see jannesvit.com) in addition to teaching and has held courses and workshops at vocational schools and for the private sector in addition to working at Sund. Janne is passionate about the subject!
We had a great class and an incredibly talented and warm teacher in Janne. We got to share so many wonderful moments with each other that I'm so happy I have now. Being able to share Japan with such a great group is something I'm so glad I got to do!

What former students say
The year at Sund was really important to me. I needed time to fill with what I wanted, time to try something new without being afraid to fail.
The year at Sund can be exactly what you need it to be, at least it was for me!
