Half-year courses

Explore Norway – explore yourself
(half-year course spring 2027)

This the course is not just about traveling and exploring Norway – it is also about a personal journey that can change you!

Are you ready for the ultimate Scandinavian adventure?

A journey through Norway's stunning nature , untouched wilderness and peaceful northern lights experiences will be your guide as you discover who you really are.

This international course invites you on a journey of discovery where the exploration of Norway's nature, rich culture and your own inner life are woven together. Based on Sund folk high school (founded in 1868), idyllically situated on Inderøy by the Trondheimsfjord, you will experience a year that can change you from the ground up.

Through the power of Arctic elements, exciting outdoor activities and magical moments of silence under the polar sky, you will find your way back to your own heart.

As a socially engaged school lives and breathes Sund for international solidarity, sustainability and culture – values that naturally become part of your everyday life in our community.

We believe that the best way to develop is not through exercises behind a school desk, but through your own experiences. Every activity we do together is a tool to discover your hidden potential and develop yourself as a person, while also getting to know the Norwegian language and culture.

In brief:

  • Get to know Norway and yourself
  • Experience wild and untouched nature
  • Exciting outdoor activities
  • Become part of a warm community

More about the course

This is what we do – experiences as a path to ourselves

The outdoor activities are not about competing for the best time or collecting the most kilometers. They are entrances to strong experiences where we feel the power of Norwegian nature and through it discover our own inner self. Each activity and expedition is an opportunity to challenge our own limits a little - in complete peace and with the support of the group.

This is what you will learn:

  • Kayak and canoe: Paddling through the fjord's mirror-like waters is like a form of active meditation.
  • Fishing: Casting your line into the deep waters of the fjord teaches you to slow down.
  • Via ferrata and mountain hikes: At a leisurely pace we move up steep mountain walls and along mountain paths.
  • Mountain biking and cycling: On mountain bikes we cycle through forest trails and discover hidden gems in the Norwegian landscape.

- When I started at Historical handicraft I had very little experience with crafts. But I quickly learned that it didn't really matter how much prior knowledge you had as long as you wanted to learn and found it fun to work with your hands. So I would say that the most important thing I learned at Historical handicraft was not necessarily how to make all the different wonderful things we learn to make, but how fun and useful it is to be able to use our hands to utilize the nature around us.

  • What former students say

It was really nice to take six months at Sund. I had been studying for a number of years and needed a break from theory and exams. A practical semester where I was allowed to work and learn with my hands was absolutely perfect for me.
