Year-round course (two semesters)

Expedition Latin America

Explore the world- Find yourself, Peru & Bolivia

Forget charter vacations. Forget the tourist trail. This is the year you're actually going out and experiencing the world.

What happens when you swap your everyday life at home for the Andes, jungle, desert, small villages, big city life and people who live completely different lives than you?

You'll find out on Expedition Latin America .

Understand the world

We travel through Peru and Bolivia and experience Latin America up close – not just through the bus window. We meet people, explore nature and culture, try new things and move a little outside our comfort zone.

Here you can learn Spanish, cook with local ingredients, explore traditional knowledge, climb, hike, immerse yourself in other cultures – and perhaps discover sides of yourself you didn't know you had.

You can also use photos, films and storytelling to document what you experience and tell the stories further.

And yes – there will probably be some long bus rides, strange foods, early mornings, sweaty sacks and moments where you wonder why you signed up. That's kind of the point.

Because this is not just about traveling to Peru and Bolivia.

It's about traveling a little bit beyond who you were when you left home.

More about the course

Of course, you will learn a lot about Peru and Bolivia, but the goal is not to be able to list capitals and years.

We want you to become curious about the world and more confident in facing it .

We explore how people live, think and solve problems in different ways. We talk about culture, identity, nature, food, sustainability, society and differences between people. We meet people with experiences different from our own and practice listening before drawing conclusions.

We also learn to question our own thoughts:

Why do we do things like this?
Are there other ways?
What can we learn from others?
And how do we really know what we think we know?

You will be allowed to try, fail and try again. Learn to collaborate. Take responsibility. Say what you think – and tolerate others thinking differently.

Because the world doesn't need more people who can just give the right answers. It needs people who are curious, think for themselves and are able to see things from multiple angles.

Expedition to Peru and Bolivia

After months of preparation, we are moving the classroom to Peru and Bolivia for 4–5 weeks .

We start in Peru and experience the contrasts between the big city, the coast, the desert, the Andes and the Amazon. We explore local food and food culture, visit people and places that give us an insight into everyday life, and learn about how people have adapted to nature over generations.

We travel further towards Cusco and the Andes, experiencing Machu Picchu and hiking in the highlands. We encounter traditions and knowledge that have been developed over hundreds of years, and explore what this knowledge can teach us today.

Then the trip continues to Bolivia. We experience Lake Titicaca, the highland city of La Paz and the vast landscape around Salar de Uyuni.

Along the way, we should not just look .

This is what we will do:

We're going to meet people.
Ask questions.
Taste.
Listen.
Photographing.
Filming.
Try.
And maybe sometimes miss a little.

Because that's often when we learn the most.

When we get home the last part begins

An expedition is not over when the plane lands in Norway.

Back at school we will process what we have experienced. What impressed us? What surprised us? What made us change our minds? And what did we learn about ourselves?

You get to use what you've collected along the way to create something yourself – perhaps a film, photo exhibition, podcast, presentation or a completely different project.

And maybe you will have the opportunity to present what you have learned to others .

Because we believe that knowledge shouldn't just be something you keep for yourself. It becomes even more valuable when you can share it with others.

A year with space for all of you

You don't have to be the toughest, sportiest, or most outgoing person in the group.

You don't need to know what you're going to become.

You just need to be curious .

On the world. On other people. On nature. On new ideas. And perhaps most of all on yourself.

Expedition Latin America is a year where we explore the world – and where the world gets to help shape us.

"Applying to Sund folk high school was definitely one of the best decisions I ever made. During my year at the UN and International Politics, I was able to develop both my perspective on the world and myself, largely thanks to the great discussions we had in class, and our teacher Jakob who knows absolutely everything"

  • What former students say

A year where I got to grow, breathe and learn at my own pace. I was given time and space to reflect and process different things. And then I was able to blossom at full speed, at a slow pace and in different directions.
