More about the course

Audio-based learning

In this course we will work with ensemble, rhythm, ear and jazz theory . In the teaching we work aurally based and through the method we will immerse ourselves in various harmonic, melodic and rhythmic phenomena with improvisation and jazz as a starting point.

We will also work on skills on our own instrument , understanding of genres and our own musical expression .

Immersion

The course also provides an in-depth study of the profession as a musician through individually tailored project weeks, courses in application writing and booking, PR, and preparatory teaching aimed at higher music education.

There will be both teaching with the regular teachers at the jazz department at Sund in addition to visits from guest teachers.

Annual plan

The course runs from January to May and can be seen as a pure in-depth course in jazz and improvisational music , but also a preparation course for entrance exams for higher music education.

Startup gatherings

Prior to the course, two kick-off meetings will be held that we want all students to attend.

Common subjects

In addition to core classes, students will receive joint instruction with electives, a school choir, and a joint subject seminar on Saturdays with topics such as democracy, citizenship, politics, nature and the environment, life skills, and health. There will be somewhat fewer joint subjects than for those who take year-round jazz.

The unique thing about folk high school is that you can learn about what you like - because you want to! We organized the teaching according to what we wanted to learn about. In the breaks, the discussion was loose. What is justice? Who has the power? It was incredibly inspiring!

Rainforest

"The Rainforest Program offers great insight and wisdom about the world's best and worst contexts. This year was just as formative as five years at university, and I would never have done without it! It warms my heart to think back to the Sund days!

What former students say

Before Sund , I'd had a year off and was about to start a study program I was halfway motivated for. Luckily, I took the time for a year at Regnskoglinja, the time to find out what I care about and what I really want. I'm very happy about that.
