A new world is undoubtedly needed.
To create a better world, we need an evolved worldview. This the course is for those who want to learn about eco-philosophy, practical crafts and love of nature. Turn off your cell phone and come!
We will forage, fish, grow, create, read, act, dance, discuss, invite, irritate and provoke.
"There are enough resources in the world to meet man's needs, but not his greed," Mahatma Ghandi is said to have said.
The consumption of resources for necessary and unnecessary purposes, people's sense of emptiness and the slow destruction of other species' and our own habitats; that's what this the course wants to do something about.
In brief:
- The world needs new solutions
- We look for good answers together
- We use nature and learn to collect, grow, fish and preserve
- Woodwork and other crafts
- Love of nature
More about the course
Current topics and our approach
A love of the nature that surrounds us has first priority. Out on a hike, expanding our knowledge of species, asking questions and digging, staying overnight. Dialogue is best in the open air. By looking at the characteristics of our own society and comparing them with those of others, we at the course want to find real answers to today's challenges:
- Habitat reduction and destruction
- War and human rights
- Resource struggle
- Economic models and pitfalls
- The blurring between apparent and real needs (for energy and other resources)
- Journalism, media power and fake news, KI
- Democracy, strengths and weaknesses, alternatives
- The road ahead
Sources of inspiration can range from Anne Sverdrup-Thygeson, Arne Næss, Sigmund Setreng, Eva Jolie, Henry David Thoreau, Paulo Freire, Nils Faarlund, to Johannes Lid, Terje Tvedt, or Håkon Holien. Of course, we'll also get to meet some of these people in person. We will also study the boreal coniferous forest, of which there are some in Nord-Trøndelag.
Who is the line suitable for?
This is a newly launched course that is suitable for anyone who believes that the world is heading in the wrong direction. With overconsumption, environmental destruction and ever-widening gaps between rich and poor.
This is what you will learn
Science and inspiration
To be specific enough, we must take into account that we humans are playful, cultural and curious. So we should also be practical.
We will learn through crafts, fishing, gathering and hiking:
- quaternary geology
- plant sociology
- hydrology
- general ecology
- ecophilosophy
- journalism
- logic
- rhetoric
- economy
- And much more
Our expectations of you
We expect you to be curious, open and engaged in the world around you.
The unique thing about folk high school is that you can learn about what you like - because you want to! We organized the teaching according to what we wanted to learn about. In the breaks, the discussion was loose. What is justice? Who has the power? It was incredibly inspiring!

Rainforest"The Rainforest Program offers great insight and wisdom about the world's best and worst contexts. This year was just as formative as five years at university, and I would never have done without it! It warms my heart to think back to the Sund days!
